Introduction: Astaxanthin, a member of the carotenoid family, is an oxygenated red-orange pigment. It can be found in microalgae, yeast, salmon, trout, shrimp, crustaceans, and other sources, but Haematococcus pluvialis is the best source of astaxanthin. It cannot be synthesized by the human body and should be provided by the diet.
